Prove Me Wrong - Review

We were delighted to learn that one of our new album songs, Prove Me Wrong, was chosen for a lunchtime playlist at Ear to the Ground Music. Here is the review it received:

"I’m not going to say the Weepies or the Waylin Jennies or even I’m With Her… okay, so maybe I said it. But these two talented sisters are winning some hearts. The twangy Americana they make is guaranteed to melt your hearts and make you wish you were in the mountains, even if you’re the coldest city slicker. The lilting vibrato on the vocals are authentic while the string work feels as refreshing as the front porch breeze. I could listen to these talented ladies all day."

See the entire playlist HERE.

Prove Me Wrong was also featured in a weekly podcast at Sing Out! Radio Magazine. Listen to the show HERE.

KKFI 90.1 FM Band Auction

Last weekend, we had the pleasure of auctioning off a 2-hour performance to help Kansas City's KKFI 90.1 FM Radio with their spring fund raiser. Special thanks to Linda Wilson, the host of WomanSong, and special guest Diana Linn Ennis, and to Mark "Buzzz" Collins for engineering the show.

Here's an edited version of the radio broadcast, if you'd care to listen in. We had to take out the cover songs due to licensing issues, so this only includes the original music that we played. We hope you'll enjoy listening to a few of the new songs from our soon-to-release album, Broken Ties!

BBC Radio and Another Album Review

We were thrilled to learn this past week that one of our songs,
The Loving Kind, debuted in the United Kingdom on BBC Local Radio on Marie Crichton's Country Show!
Ms Crichton had some very nice things to say, and we are delighted that she enjoyed our music enough to share it with her listeners!
You may listen in (for the next 25 days or so...) to the recording.
Ours comes in at around 27 minutes into the show.

My Own Dixie also received another album review!
This time at The Daily Country. Tara writes,

"Enchanting. Captivating. Delightful. The Vogts Sisters first original album, My Own Dixie is all of those things;
an album blending Folk, Americana and Bluegrass into something graceful and pristine,
filled with harmonies and instrumentation that are absolutely gorgeous."

KKFI Band Auction

Before Easter, we participated in a band auction at KKFI 90.1 FM Radio in Kansas City, MO. It was a lot of fun--despite "mom" getting lost on our way to the station. Thankfully, our host allowed us a spot at a later time.

Linda Wilson was our DJ for the auction, program host for WomanSong.

Thanks to all who bid on us that afternoon. We appreciate your support and look forward to our concert with the winning bidder for an anniversary party this fall. We're glad to help support this radio station as well as to share our music with Kansas City listeners!

KKFI Radio Band Auction

On Saturday, April 19th, we're going to participate in a Band Auction at KKFI 90.1 FM Community Radio in Kansas City, MO. The auction is part of an annual fund raiser to help support this amazing radio station that offers our genre of music--bluegrass, folk, and Americana.

What is it? - A fund raiser where nearly 100 bands each donate a two-hour concert to be auctioned to the highest bidder during the showcase auction.

How does it work? - Each act is scheduled for a 30-minute live performance on one of KKFI's music shows held over a ten-day period from April 10-28. During that 30 minute showcase, listeners call in and bid. The highest bidder then works with the band to arrange for a 2-hour gig to be held in the next 12 months. The number to call during the showcase is (888) 931-0901. Bids will be taken during the scheduled 30 minutes that each act is showcased.

What does the high bid receive? - A two-hour gig to be scheduled with the band within the next 12 months. This could be a birthday party, anniversary party, class reunion, block party, etc. Gigs are usually limited to a 50-mile radius of the KC area. (*See our note below.)

What is the minimum bid? - Generally, the minimum bid is $100 for a solo act, and $200 for a band.

What if I'm unable to listen and bid that day? - Advanced bids are accepted. Simply email Bill at KKFI (billc@kkfi.org) and let him know your maximum bid. KKFI will serve as your agent in getting the band of your choice at as low a price as the bidding allows, but no more than your stated maximum bid.

So, what does this mean for The Vogts Sisters? - We will be showcased on Saturday, April 19 from 11:30 AM-Noon during the Woman's Song Music Show. *Because we do not live in the Kansas City area, we are able to provide a wider range for a possible gig and will accepts bids between SE Kansas and the KC area. If you're unable to tune in to the show on your radio, you may listen to a live-stream online or learn more about the auction HERE.

What does all of this mean? - The high bidder gets a two hour gig donated by the participating band for live music for a birthday, anniversary, or party. KKFI gets the money, and the band gets the exposure.

Help us spread the news by sharing this with your family and friends!

Radio Interviews

As promotion for the Bluegrass Concert in Parsons, KS gears up this week, Abbey and Maggie took part in their first radio interviews.

The first one was on Monday at KLKC 1540 AM in Parsons. Abbey handled this one by herself, since Maggie had an early morning class at PSU. Steve Lardy did a great job with questions and interviewed Abbey for nearly fifteen minutes. She managed to answer all of them, with a few nervous giggles thrown in--but hey, she's only sixteen!

The next morning, both girls had an interview in Pittsburg at KHST My Country 101.7 FM with Dalton James Windsor, who immediately put the girls at ease.

It didn't hurt to have a cardboard frame of George Strait to greet them in his office.

Dalton didn't ask as many questions, but he gave them plenty of airtime, playing two of their songs, one of them a live performance of Tennessee Me, a favorite song by The Secret Sisters. And Abbey only giggled once this time! A real success.

8/20/12

Kansas State Fiddling and Picking Championship

This next weekend, the girls will attend the Kansas State Fiddling and Picking Championship in Lawrence, KS, where they will enter the Folk Ensemble Competition. This will be the first time to attend such an event, so we're looking forward to seeing and hearing many talented musicians.

We're still waiting to find out if Maggie or Abbey won a place on a spotlight stage at the Walnut Valley Festival in Winfield. We hope to hear back in the next week or so and will keep you updated. Thanks for your friendship and support! It means so much to us.
