Walnut Valley Festival 2014

We had such a fun time last week at the opening day of Walnut Valley Festival.

We started the day off with the NewSong Showcase at Stage 2, sponsored by Still on the Hill. One of Maggie's songs won in the religious category and another was selected as an alternate in the love category.

Mischievous Swing
This year's festival had a great line-up of performers. We managed to sit and listen to Stephanie Bettman and Luke Halpin, Socks in the Frying Pan, a band from Ireland, and Mischievous Swing--the guys who provided the instrumentals on our new CD. (Be sure to check out their music!)

Later that afternoon, we sang at Stage 11, a special stage for songwriters, where only original songs can be shared.

The day was full of mingling with other musicians we've met this past year, including Bob Colladay, who we first met at the Kansas Sampler. Bob has been a wonderful supporter of our music and offered to share his place on Stage 5 later that evening. What an honor!

The highlight of our day came when we performed on Stage 5. Bob sang one of his songs that he co-wrote with Roy McClure called "Waffle House Blues."

We finished the set by singing a few of our favorite "cover songs." Singing on Stage 5 was an amazing experience. Thanks to everyone who came out to hear our music. You were an awesome audience! We hope to return to Winfield next year!

Next up, we'll perform at the Artist Alley, in Chanute, KS this Saturday, September 27, from 12:30 - 2:30. See the days' schedule HERE. Hope you can join us!

American Heritage Music Mini Festival

Last week we had a great time in Winfield, KS, where we performed for the American Heritage Music Mini Festival, sponsored by the Winfield Arts and Humanities.

This is the 20th year for this mini-festival, which began as a way to kick-off the Walnut Valley Festival and also introduce bluegrass and folk music to area children.

We were honored to be chosen as one of this year's performers. Read more in this article from the Winfield Courier.

We'll share more about our trip to Winfield and the Walnut Valley Festival later this week!

Next up, we'll perform at Artist Alley on Saturday, September 27 from 12:30 - 2:30 PM. See the schedule HERE.

Acoustic Kids ~ Walnut Valley Festival

This past weekend, the girls performed at the Walnut Valley Festival in Winfield, KS. What an awesome experience! We've never attended this bluegrass festival before--the same festival that jump-started the careers of such industry greats as Alison Krauss, Mark O'Connor, the Dixie Chicks, and so many more.

Thanks to Andy May and his wife, who hosted the Acoustic Kids Showcase and selected Abbey (and Maggie) to perform Friday and Saturday on Stage 2.

The first morning was cold enough to see your breath . . . and for Maggie to drag out her Carhartt coat.

Tens of thousands of campers and music lovers attended the festival to watch talented performers and skilled musicians.

Some of our favorite bands were: Driven, John McCutcheon, Mountain Heart, and The Quebe Sisters, who also performed on Stage 2.

It rained most of Wednesday and Thursday, so there was plenty of mud too.

The girls stayed in their grandparents' RV for the weekend--a luxury of hot meals and warmth when all were cold and damp.

Until next time, Winfield. Hope to see you again soon!

Walnut Valley Festival

This next weekend, Abbey and Maggie will be a part of the Acoustic Kids Showcase at the Walnut Valley Festival in Winfield, KS. Abbey submitted four songs and learned last week that she had been selected--along with Maggie, so that they could sing harmony. It's a great honor, and we're thrilled at this opportunity to share their music.

We've never attended the festival in Winfield, so it'll be another first for us. If you happen to be in attendance, The Vogts Sisters will be performing on Stage 2, from 9:00-10:45 AM on Friday and Saturday mornings. Hope to see you there!
