Friday Night Music in Fort Scott

Last weekend, we returned to Fort Scott, Kansas to finish off their Friday Night Music Series
--this time held inside at the First United Methodist Church.

11/10/14

Music at the Emma Chase

This Friday we hope to attend the Friday Night Music Jam at the Emma Chase. Music begins at 7:30 PM at 220 1/2 Broadway, Cottonwood Falls, KS.

This is where our love for folk and bluegrass really came alive--back in 2009 when Abbey sang in the music round.

Maggie joined her a few years later at the annual Flint Hills Folk Life Celebration--and our love continues to grow.

We've had some great moments in Cottonwood Falls sharing our songs. We even held an Old Time Noise CD Launch there in 2012.

At the end of the year, the Emma Chase will be closing their doors, along with the Friday Night Music.

We want to wish Sue and Monty Smith the very best, and thank them for all they've done for the community and so many more. We can only hope the new owners will continue the grand tradition you've set forth.

Coffee Houses and Tepees

This past weekend was a whir of activity as we traveled to Wichita, Kansas on Friday to perform at Mead's Corner Coffee House. What a sweet place this turned out to be.

Several friends joined us for the concert, including Roger, who has traveled to several of our concerts this past year.

As well as friends from our hometown.

Kansas Author, and friend, Deborah Raney, hosted us for the night and took us garage sale shopping the next morning. What fun!

On Saturday, we traveled to rural Fort Scott to perform at a private Folk Jam hosted by Daniel Kerr.

A huge tepee was set up for the evening, which turned out to be a terrific way to enjoy great music and meet new friends. One member from the Stillwater Hobos attended to add some Irish Folk music to the mix. All-in-all, a great weekend.

Our next performance will be Saturday, October 26 at Homer's Coffee House in Overland, Park, Kansas.

Art Walk ~ Pittsburg, KS

This past weekend, we attended the Art Walk, held in downtown Pittsburg, KS. We set up in front of The Home Place, one of our favorite places to shop in Pittsburg!

It was warm and  humid Friday night, but we enjoyed an occasional breeze.

There were lots of musicians set up on Broadway as well as those on stages. Music was booming everywhere. Artists were also in good supply.

Thanks to everyone who stopped by to listen to our music. And thanks to those who left a tip! We so appreciate your support. Next up, the Kansas State Fair on September 6, where we'll be singing at the Gazebo at Gottschalk Park, and also at Lake Talbot. Check out the schedule HERE.

7/22/13

Kansas Celebrity Hall of Fame

This past month we were invited to attend a music show at Kansas Celebrity Hall of Fame in Independence, KS. We enjoyed visiting with Mike Flood and seeing all the neat posters and guitars from Kansas celebrities.

Here playing with singer/songwriter, Jim Friend. Be sure to check out this fun venue (with air conditioning and great sound) at their next music event on Thursday, August 8. Learn more on their Facebook page HERE.

Heritage Park Pavilion ~ Fort Scott, KS

This past weekend, we returned to Fort Scott to sing for the summer music series at Heritage Park Pavilion.

It's always fun to visit with those in the community and meet new fans!

One such fan took a picture of our boots! Maggie loves her new Ariat Rosebud Boots. Thanks, Terri Lynn Coop for sharing this picture. Click here to view more photos taken by the Fort Scott Tribune.

Next Concert ~ Fort Scott, KS

This Friday, July 12, we're heading back to Fort Scott to perform at the Heritage Park Pavilion, 1st and Main.

If you're in the area, bring your lawn chairs and join us at 7:00 PM for an evening of music in the park. We've love to see you there!

6/18/13

Cottonwood Falls and Junction City

This past weekend we enjoyed visiting the Flint Hills where we participated in the Friday night music round in Cottonwood Falls, KS.

The event was the start to the Flint Hills Folklife Celebration and was held on the courthouse lawn.

It was lots of fun jamming with the many musicians who showed up for the event.

The next day, we traveled to St. Paul's Lutheran Church near Junction City, KS where we provided the entertainment for their annual hog roast celebration.

They had lots of good food and the old church was really neat to visit, first dedicated in 1883.

Next on our calendar is the Civic Theatre in Pretty Prairie, KS. We're looking forward to performing in this 1930's theatre where they continue to show classic movies and live music performances. Show date: Saturday, June 29 at 7:30 PM.

Friday Night Music in Cottonwood Falls, KS

This next weekend, the girls will head to Cottonwood Falls for their Friday night music, beginning at 7:30 PM at the Emma Chase Music Hall. We always enjoy the music rounds in Cottonwood Falls. Lots of great bluegrass music planned for their Flint Hills Folk Life Festival.

On Saturday, they'll sing near Junction City for a hog roast, sponsored by St. Paul's Lutheran Church--open to the community. 5805 Clark's Creek Road.

Looking forward to a weekend in the Flint Hills. Hope you can join us there!

Weekend in Cottonwood Falls

One of our favorite places to visit is Cottonwood Falls--a little town situated smack-dab in the middle of the Kansas Flint Hills. Quaint, charming, beautiful, and friendly.

Sue Smith at the Emma Chase Cafe hosted the girls for their first CD Launch Party, which began with Friday night music at the Emma Chase Music Hall.

Live music is performed every Friday night in this sweet town. If you live in Kansas and haven't taken the opportunity to visit Cottonwood Falls, we highly recommend you do so!

Saturday the girls roamed the brick streets of Cottonwood Falls and visited a few stores. Some monkeys in a window display at Emma Chase Cafe.

Two monkeys goofing around at Jim Bell and Son Western Store

Practicing for their concert after learning they had to add 20 minutes to their song list.

The Launch Party

A nice turnout from those in Cottonwood Falls, as well as Emporia, Winfield, Chanute, Marion, and more.

Next weekend we'll have our local CD Launch at
Horizons at Prairie Ridge,
59 Hwy, Erie, KS. 1-3:00 PM.
$10 suggested gratuity. Appetizers will be served along with live acoustic entertainment. CDs available for sale.

Heat and Rain

This past weekend, the girls had two singing events to attend in 100+ degree temperatures. We packed plenty of water, but I admit to being concerned about their welfare and ready to attend to them should they pass out from heatstroke.

Here with one of their "fans" who gave them each a music ribbon for being published in the Fort Scott Tribune twice.

They did a great job, despite Mom and Dad worrying.

Friday night they sang once more in Fort Scott, and Saturday they sang two songs at Galesburg Days before a sudden rain storm developed and everything had to be taken down. We apologize to all who came to hear the girls and have offered to return, should the community decide to put on a Music in the Park night.

Music in Fort Scott

This past weekend, Maggie and Abbey performed in Fort Scott at the Heritage Park Pavilion. The weather was pleasant and there was a nice show of people in the audience.

Thanks to Ralph Carlson and the rest of the crew for inviting the girls to sing and for doing such a great job on the audio/technical side of things. The evening music sounded great!

The girls have been experiencing some amazing things with their music this summer, and we hope to share more about that in the near future. Until then, please pray for us to make wise decisions, stay grounded, and to always be grateful for the blessings God gives. The Vogts Sisters will be performing again in Fort Scott on Friday, July 6. Have a great week!

Flint Hills Folk Festival

This past weekend we drove up to Chase County for the Flint Hills Folklife Festival held in Cottonwood Falls. This was also the Symphony in the Flint Hills weekend, so there were a lot of people in town. It's always such a joy to visit this area. Here are a few pictures from the weekend.
